Manitoba has been a meeting place for more than 2000 years. A place to learn, grow, and share ideas. The centre of Canada, the gateway to the west, our province has and will continue to play an important role in the progress of our great nation. Our vast potential issurpassed only by our aspirations.
Progressive Conservatives are proud of their contribution to Manitoba’s success. From John Bracken’s electrification of rural Manitoba, to the founding of Manitoba Hydro under Duff Roblin, to Gary Filmon’s early completion of the Limestone hydroelectric project $1 billion under budget, Progressive Conservatives have long provided vision and competent leadership for Manitoba. Our Party sees Manitoba as a society of common values and aspirations, and have used this understanding to achieve concrete results for our great province.
Manitobans expect a government that delivers on their priorities. They want a government that embraces their spirit of risk-taking and respects their personal freedom. They want a government that sees Manitoba as a united province, not merely a collection of special interest groups. They want a government that respects individual initiative, recognizing volunteerism, families and communities as the building blocks of our modern society. They want a government that provides safe neighbourhoods based on the rule of law and provides compassion and support for those who need help. Manitobans want a government that is open and accountable. A government that delivers concrete results, not meaningless rhetoric.
Manitobans increasingly find they have different priorities than the NDP government. This government has badly mismanaged the biggest capital project of our generation. It has wasted millions of dollars on a branding campaign invisible outside of our borders. And still each year thousands of our young people leave Manitoba for better opportunities elsewhere. This government has undermined confidence in Manitoba’s capital markets with its Crocus coverup. It has fostered a health care system that is bloated and unresponsive.
Manitobans are seeing an unprecedented amount of crime in their neighbourhoods with no adequate response from their government. They are dismayed that our debt continues to grow even as taxes remain high and our province posts record revenues from federal transfers. Manitoba’s education system is falling behind, and families are struggling to find childcare. Manitobans increasingly see a government that is under the control of special interest groups and out of touch with their priorities.
Manitobans deserve a government that will focus on results. A Progressive Conservative government would provide that focus:
-
restoring effective leadership for Manitobans, making our province
-
economically prosperous, building safe communities to live and raise
-
a family, providing better care and a better environment, and
-
providing accountable government while modernizing our historic institutions.
Manitobans should be proud of the province they have built. From the Aboriginal peoples who started here, to the first European settlers and our Métis founders, to the new Canadians who continue to choose our province as the place to raise their families, Manitoba is strengthened by its people and the diversity of their experiences. But it is our common values and aspirations that unite us.
As we move forward together, Manitobans realize there is still much work left to do. They envision their province as a place of economic opportunity. A province that keeps its young people at home and attracts others from abroad. A province with a modern democracy.
A province that keeps its people safe and provides them with worldclass medical care. They envision a province that is strong and proud. Our government would be committed to helping Manitobans realize that vision. Committed to making Manitoba work for all its people. Committed to delivering real results. To restoring pride in our province.
Together, we can build a better Manitoba.
