Here are 3 updates about things happening in the Legislature and Constituency I thought you might want to know about.
- The NDP introduced legislation that will eliminate the requirement for them to make payments on the provincial debt for the next 3 years. Under the Balanced Budget Act created by the former Progressive Conservative government, there should be payments on the debt of $110 million per year for the next three years. The NDP want to eliminate that requirement. This is particularly concerning because Manitoba already has a higher debt than Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia COMBINED.
- The NDP government backed down on taking the vote tax which would have given the NDP Party $250,000 this year of taxpayers dollars. The Manitoba PC Party said it would not take this taxpayer subsidized handout for political parties and after 6 months, the NDP bowed to pressure and said they would not take it this year. We will see what they do next year.

On Thursday April 16, 2009, I introduced a Bill that would guarantee every person the right to Hunt, Fish and Trap in the Province of Manitoba. The Minister of Conservation was very interested in the Bill and Agreed to Second the Bill It is still in first reading but stands a very good chance of going to committee and pass. This very unusual for Opposition to be allowed to have a bill pass in the house. So stay tuned. As always, if you have any comments about these items, please let me know.
